Paul Pelosi Attends Kennedy Center Honors In First Appearance Since Hammer Attack – In his first public appearance since being savagely attacked with a hammer by an intruder more than a month ago, Paul Pelosi attended the Kennedy Center Honors on Sunday night. A Getty photographer captured Paul Pelosi, 82, standing close to his wife, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, at the annual award presentation at The Kennedy Center.

At the awards ceremony, Paul Pelosi wore a cap and one glove, probably to cover injuries he incurred in the assault. Last month, Nancy Pelosi, also 82, stated that after undergoing major surgery following the horrific October attack, he still has a “long haul” to a full recovery. Doctors had to remove his skull, restructure it, and fuse it back together after a maniac broke into the Pelosis’ San Francisco house on Oct. 28 and bashed his head in with a hammer.

Paul Pelosi spent around six days in the intensive care unit at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center. Nancy Pelosi, who is quitting as the Democratic leader of the House, stated last week that her husband is “coming along” but still requires further time to fully heal. During her weekly press conference on Thursday, she stated, “It’s going to take a while. Head injuries are — they have an impact beyond surgery. It’s a big thing.”

David DePape, age 42, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, attempted kidnapping, and assault for the attack. He apparently intended to target Nancy Pelosi, but she was not at her residence at the time. Politico reports that in addition to the Pelosis, President Biden, First Lady Jill Biden, Hunter Biden, and his wife Melissa Cohen, Vice President Kamala Harris, Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Homeland Security Secretary Alec Mayorkas, and Anthony Fauci attended the 45th Kennedy Center Honors.

This year’s honorees included actor George Clooney, singers Amy Grant and Gladys Knight, composer Tania León and the four U2 band members. President Biden hosted the honorees at the White House before the official ceremony, as customary. The event recognizes five people or groups for their influence on American culture through the arts each year.
