Rep. Nancy Pelosi is Running for Reelection – On Friday, Nancy Pelosi, the ex-Speaker of the House from California, declared her intention to seek reelection in 2024. She initially disclosed her plans during a breakfast event with volunteers in San Francisco and subsequently made a public announcement on the platform formerly known as Twitter, now referred to as “X.”
“Now more than ever our City needs us to advance San Francisco values and further our recovery,” The post read. “Our country needs America to show the world that our flag is still there, with liberty and justice for ALL. That is why I am running for reelection — and respectfully ask for your vote. -Nancy.” Pelosi’s declaration coincides with Democrats’ efforts to regain control of the House of Representatives following their loss of nine seats during the 2022 midterm election.
Concerns about Nancy Pelosi’s political trajectory arose following her announcement in November of the previous year that she wouldn’t pursue another term in party leadership. Notably, Pelosi made history in 2007 as the first woman to be elected Speaker of the House, holding this position until 2011 when Republicans regained control of the chamber. In a remarkable comeback, she was reelected as Speaker in 2019, becoming the first to hold the speakership twice since Sam Rayburn.
However, in November 2022, she disclosed her decision to step down from her leadership role and threw her support behind Representative Hakeem Jeffries to take the helm of the Democratic caucus. This transition marked a significant moment in Pelosi’s political career and generated considerable speculation about her future in politics.
