Samsung Is Preparing Its Own Metaverse Hardware in Partnership With Google and Qualcomm – Samsung, a Korean mobile company, announced that it will soon enter the metaverse and VR headset market. The company is currently developing “extended reality” hardware, suggesting the creation of a VR headset. TM Roh, the head of Samsung’s mobile experiences business, confirmed that a new device is being developed but did not reveal when it will be launched. He mentioned that Qualcomm, a chip maker, and Google are involved as partners.
On Feb. 1, Roh told The Washington Post: “Many different companies have been making these announcements about different realities, so we have also been making similar preparations, no less than any others.” Ro stated that Samsung postponed its entry into the market due to the market not being ready and competitors’ similar devices not performing as well as expected.

Samsung has joined the list of manufacturers that have already introduced metaverse devices, such as Meta and HTC, with others like Apple set to follow suit soon. The new device from Samsung will feature a Qualcomm chip optimized for VR performance and run on a Google-powered OS. Samsung’s resolve to enter a potentially crowded market could indicate a move towards expansion beyond traditional smartphones.
Nokia, another technology firm, has predicted that metaverse technology will take the place of smartphones in the latter half of the decade. However, in opposition, Ro believes this new family of devices does not represent any danger to what smartphones offer today. He stated: “Smartphones will continue to build on the features and the needs of consumers and will provide even more new experiences.”
According to Roh, the integration of the metaverse with smartphones has the potential to enhance the user experience and pave the way for further advancements. Samsung is not a newcomer to the metaverse, having made various investments in related projects. The company’s interest in this area demonstrates its commitment to exploring and utilizing the possibilities of this technology.
