Fifa Investigating How Chef Salt Bae Got on to World Cup Final Pitch – Fifa has started an investigation into how social media influencer chef and restaurateur Salt Bae and others got access to the pitch after the World Cup final in Qatar. The Turkish chef, who runs Nusr-Et restaurants in London, Dubai, and New York, was seen holding, kissing, and pretending to sprinkle salt on the World Cup trophy, as well as interrupting Argentina players’ celebrations following their penalty shootout triumph against France.
Only the tournament winners and Fifa officials are permitted to touch or hold the trophy. Salt Bae, whose real name is Nusret Gökçe, was also seen after the game attempting to attract the attention of Argentina captain Lionel Messi. Later, images were uploaded to Gokce’s Instagram account. According to a statement by the governing body, “Following a review, Fifa has been establishing how individuals gained undue access to the pitch after the closing ceremony at Lusail stadium on 18 December.” “The appropriate internal action will be taken.”

In 2017, Gökçe went viral on social media after a video showing him preparing and seasoning steak in front of diners went viral. Since that time, he has opened more than twenty restaurants. In September 2021, he launched a restaurant in west London that was famed for its £2,000 tomahawk steak wrapped in gold. David Beckham, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Nicolás Maduro, the president of Venezuela, are among the celebrities who have dined at his restaurant.
On Sunday, following Argentina’s third World Cup victory, Gökçe was seen walking around the field and attempting to pose with startled players, including Lisandro Martinez. Fifa head Gianni Infantino visited one of his restaurants in Dubai in January 2021, where he could be seen alongside Gökçe, mimicking his trademark salt-seasoning pose. “Mr Nusrat, number one, the best of the best, unforgettable evening in Dubai,” Infantino said on the video, before calling him a “legend.” Gökçe posted a video during the World Cup of him embracing Infantino, and he was later pictured in VIP seats.
