Russian Social Media Giant Vkontakte Launches NFT Service – Vkontakte (VK), the leading social media network in the Russian-speaking sector, has launched an NFT service and an educational course on non-fungible tokens (NFTs), according to the crypto page of the Russian business news portal RBC, which cited the company. During a presentation in Moscow, VK’s CEO Marina Krasnova and Chief Technology Officer Alexander Tobol revealed that the new features will be available to all users within a few days. The VK NFT option will enable the transfer of digital collectibles to user accounts.
In addition, tokens can be used as avatars or shown in a profile-specific showcase. In order to do that, you’ll need to link your crypto wallet to your account. “Our task is to simplify user interaction with NFT and make it truly a mass technology,” Krasnova commented. VK will also create an NFT center where users can discuss news, announcements, market insights, and case studies. According to the source, the platform’s team would utilize the area to engage with the NFT community, discuss ideas, and seek possible partners.
Vkontakte wants to debut its own NFT collection in January 2023, followed by a full-fledged NFT marketplace that would allow users to buy and trade collectibles. The social media giant intends to incorporate the technology into its other offerings, including gaming and gifts.
The Russian government has been considering ideas to enhance the legal framework for crypto assets to encompass a broader range of activities and products. A July report revealed that the Ministry of Economy is drafting revisions to the NFT space’s regulatory framework. The largest bank in Russia, Sber, revealed in September its plan to allow customers of its proprietary blockchain platform to issue NFTs.
