Sri Lanka Protesters Break Into President’s House as Thousands Rally – More than 100,000 people gathered outside the Sri Lankan president’s official resident in Colombo on Saturday as protesters broke in, according to the police, demanding that he step down over his handling of the nation’s economic crisis.
Protesters were seen entering President’s House, Rajapaksa’s office and residence in the country’s commercial capital, in a video that was shown on Sri Lankan television and shared on social media.

Rajapaksa has left the site and isn’t there, according to security authorities, who spoke to CNN. The number of security guards on duty there is currently unknown.
According to the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, at least 31 individuals, including two police officers, have been hurt during the protests and are seeking medical attention. According to police, two of the injured are in critical condition.
The emergency gathering of party leaders has been summoned by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to discuss the present crisis and find a solution, his office announced on Saturday. He also requested that the Speaker of Parliament call the lawmakers.
The 22 million South Asian nation is enduring its greatest economic crisis in recent history, with millions of people unable to afford food, medicine, and fuel.

On Saturday, a police curfew that had previously been enforced in a number of police divisions in Sri Lanka’s Western Province was lifted. There haven’t been any violent incidents to support implementing the curfew, according to a number of MPs and the Sri Lankan Bar Association.
In recent months, tens of thousands have protested in the streets, urging the nation’s leaders to step down amid claims of economic mismanagement.
