Twitter to start charging $20 a month for verification under new owner Elon Musk – According to a report, Twitter intends to charge users nearly $20 per month to preserve their blue checkmarks as part of a premium service that will be carried out under the leadership of Elon Musk. Musk, who became CEO of the social media network on Friday, wrote on Sunday, “The whole verification process is being revamped right now.”
The hefty price bump is reportedly one of the revamps, The Verge reported. The business intends to increase its optional Twitter Blue premium subscription from $4.99 per month to $19.99 per month. However, this pricing is susceptible to change, the news source stated, citing internal correspondence and informed sources. Twitter will add extra features, including verification, to its subscription in order to match the cost increase.

The billionaire intends to charge verified users to maintain their status. According to The Verge, existing verified users have 90 days to subscribe to the new Twitter Blue following its launch or they would lose their checkmarks. The latest version of Twitter Blue was released around a year ago and provides customers with access to ad-free articles from certain publishers as well as extra customization options.
Musk has been outspoken about his aim to increase subscriptions to account for half of Twitter’s revenue and his intention to revamp the platform’s authentication process in the months leading up to his $42 billion acquisition of the company on Thursday. Employees working on the Twitter Blue upgrades were informed on Sunday that they need to meet a November 7 deadline or face firing, according to the outlet.
Since acquiring Twitter, Musk has moved fast to reduce the workforce. Starting at the top, he ousted chief executive Parag Agrawal, chief financial officer Ned Sega, the company’s top legal and policy executive Vijaya Gadde and general counsel Sean Edgett.
