Elon Musk Threatens to Sue Microsoft After it Drops Twitter From Ad Platform – Elon Musk expressed discontent as Microsoft has decided to remove Twitter support from its Smart Campaigns advertising platform. This move was quietly announced by Microsoft and means that clients using the Smart Campaigns platform will no longer be able to access their Twitter accounts or create and publish tweets from April 25 onwards. Redmond has not provided any justification for the reduction in support.
However, there are reports indicating that Twitter is planning to charge companies between $42,000 and $210,000 per month for access to its API, which enables third-party applications to integrate with the social media platform. It appears that Microsoft is following suit with others in refusing to pay the newly imposed API access fee. In response, Elon Musk is threatening legal action because Twitter’s CEO claims that Microsoft used Twitter’s data, including user tweets, to train its AI-powered programs.

Twitter’s CEO is now demanding compensation from Microsoft. “They trained illegally using Twitter data. Lawsuit time,” Musk said in a tweet. Despite AI models like ChatGPT being trained on public internet data like Wikipedia articles, Musk didn’t present any proof of illegal training. However, Musk’s statement coincided with Reddit’s announcement that it intends to charge for API access, stating that its user-generated data is being utilized to train AI models.
Musk has a problem with Microsoft, which has become the primary collaborator of OpenAI, the organization responsible for ChatGPT. Despite being a co-founder of OpenAI, Musk has been criticizing the San Francisco-based research center as a “closed source, maximum-profit company that Microsoft effectively controls.” Simultaneously, Musk has accused ChatGPT of disseminating false information, propaganda, and endorsing political correctness. As a result, he has expressed his intention to compete against OpenAI and Microsoft with his AI chatbot program, named TruthGPT.
