Elon Musk Claims he’s Buying Twitter to ‘Help Humanity’ – Elon Musk is appealing to advertisers in light of the imminent closing of his $44 billion bid to acquire Twitter. Musk reiterates in a message to advertisers that he is purchasing Twitter because it is a pillar of civilization and will benefit humanity. After Musk purchases the platform, there is concern that it will become a swamp of free-for-all comments and that extremists would have full reign. Such a platform is certain to repel advertisers, and there is a possibility that many advertisers would abandon Twitter with Musk at the head.
Musk promises in his note that Twitter will no longer be accessible to all after he acquires it. Twitter cannot become a hellscape free-for-all where anything can be said without consequence! In addition to abiding by the laws of the land, our platform must be welcoming to everyone, he tweeted. “Twitter aspires to be the most respected advertising platform in the world that strengthens your brand and grows your enterprise. To everyone who has partnered with us, I thank you. Let us build something extraordinary together.”
Musk appears more serious in his statement than he did earlier in the day when he tweeted a video of himself carrying a toilet sink into the Twitter headquarters. The message was captioned, let that sink in. Musk modified his Twitter bio around the same time to “Chief Twit.”
In his Note Musk again highlights why he is buying Twitter. He says, “The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence,” he writes. “That is why I bought Twitter. I didn’t do it because it would be easy. I didn’t do it to make more money. I did it to try to help humanity, whom I love. And I do so with humility, recognizing that failure in pursuing this goal, despite our best efforts, is a very real possibility.”
This was Musk’s original explanation when he launched his bid in April to acquire Twitter for approximately $44 billion. However, he quickly later retracted, stating that he was no longer interested in purchasing Twitter since, in his opinion, the firm exaggerated the number of its actual and active users. Twitter refuted the claims and filed a lawsuit against Musk. Musk then informed the court that he will finalize the transaction, and the court ordered him to do so by October 28.
