Accuweather Collaborates With API3 in Order to Provide Blockchain-Powered Weather Data – The American media company which provides commercial weather forecasts, Accuweather, announced on June 1 that it is tethering weather data to blockchain technology by hosting an API3 Airnode.
The company disclosed that it is partnering with blockchain oracle provider API3 and Web API operators would be able to use Accuweather’s onchain weather data.
The firm, according to the company Accuweather, is hosting its own API3 oracle node to provide a “seamless Web3 wrapper which enables Web API providers to offer Accuweather’s world-class weather data directly onchain.”
The service would give decentralized application (dapp) operators the chance to access weather data using the API3 Airnode infrastructure. Both Accuweather and API3 believe that this effort would empower people with right weather predictions as well as warnings tied to storms.

“The use and application of Accuweather’s weather data, leveraged independently on an API oracle, has the chance to make lasting effects through a range of industries and also in emerging markets,” Paul Lentz, Accuweather’s senior vice president of business development emphasizes in a statement.
“As one of the first significant weather data and forecast providers to go into the blockchain, we have an outstanding view into the demand and application of the marketplace that puts us on a strong footing as we dive into new opportunities for development and how we can better serve users.”
Blockchain, as well as weather data ideas, have been around for some years now, and Accuweather made known last year it had partnered with Chainlink to provide weather data and insights onchain. At the time, the American media company elaborated that it would be hosting a Chainlink oracle node.
A weather application called Weathersv was hosted by the blockchain Bitcoinsv (BSV). An application called Dclimate also gives onchain weather metrics and names itself a decentralized network for climate data. The co-founder of API3, Heikki Vänttinen, believes there’s a crucial need for reliable weather data.

“As legacy organizations as well as new projects alike move to blockchain technology to innovate or enhance processes, the need for reliable and transparent data has been on the rise tremendously, and Accuweather is a great example of dedication to bringing value to the decentralized space – right from the source, straight to dapps” Vänttinen emphasize on Wednesday. “We look forward to the positive impacts of the Accuweather API around all sectors, from lifelike experiences to insurance in the metaverse.”
