Fetty Wap Sentenced to 6 Years in Prison for Drug Trafficking – Fetty Wap, whose real name is Willie Maxwell, has been sentenced to prison for drug-related offenses. The rapper pleaded guilty in August to conspiring to distribute and possess controlled substances, and on Wednesday, he received a six-year prison sentence. During his court appearance, the 31-year-old Maxwell expressed remorse to the judge, acknowledging, as reported by the Associated Press, that his own selfishness and pride had led him to his current situation.
According to his legal team, Maxwell resorted to drug sales due to financial difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, prosecutors argued for a longer sentence for the rapper in a letter to the judge obtained by The New York Times. They alleged that he had used his fame and influence on “young people who admire” him to “glamorize the drug trade.”

While a representative for the rapper did not promptly reply to the comment request, Elizabeth Macedonio, his defense attorney, addressed the media outside the courthouse, as reported by WABC-TV. “This is a sad day. This is a kid from Paterson, New Jersey who made it out,” said Macedonio, who added that Maxwell “accepts responsibility for his conduct.”
The “Trap Queen” rapper has been held in custody since his bail was revoked in August after he threatened to kill a man during a FaceTime call in 2021, which violated the terms of his pretrial release in his drug case. According to a statement from the U.S. Department of Justice, Fetty Wap was among six individuals who were charged in October 2021 with the offense of “conspiring to distribute and possess controlled substances.”
The group, which also included a New Jersey corrections officer, is accused of engaging in the distribution of over 100 kilograms of cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, and crack cocaine throughout Long Island and New Jersey from June 2019 to June 2020. According to the release, the group of men reportedly acquired the illegal drugs from the West Coast and employed various methods, such as utilizing the U.S. Postal Service and vehicles equipped with concealed compartments, to transport them across the country.

Once transported, the narcotics were stored in Suffolk County, New York. In its statement, the U.S. Department of Justice stated that Fetty Wap was identified as a significant participant in the drug trafficking organization, functioning as a redistributor at the kilogram level. “The fact that we arrested a chart-topping rap artist and a corrections officer as part of the conspiracy illustrates just how vile the drug trade has become,” Michael Driscoll, FBI assistant director-in-charge, said in a statement at the time.
