New Features of iPhone iOS 16 Update Comes at a Cost, as Users’ Batteries Drain – Apple users who installed the latest iOS 16 update on their devices got a bunch of new features, but not everyone is thrilled with how it changed their phones. Apple’s latest update, which came out on September 13, added a lock screen that you can customize, new features for iMessage, and stronger security.
Users can now add widgets to their lock screen, edit messages that have already been sent, translate text in photos, and track their fitness goals without an Apple Watch, among many other features that have never been seen before. It comes just days after the tech giant announced its new line of smart tech, including the new iPhone 14, Apple Watch, and AirPods Pro models. And while some people love the new look and smarts of their phones, people all over the world have noticed that the new update has made their batteries last less long.

In Australia, searches for “iPhone battery life” on Google have reached a peak in the past few days, while searches for “iOS 16 battery drain” have skyrocketed, causing the search engine to break out its results. A third Apple fan tweeted, “iOS 16 is a great update, but it kills the battery life of my iPhone brutally.” Even though the sudden loss of battery life is annoying, Apple Support says it’s not all bad news and tells iPhone users to be patient.
A representative from Apple Support told news.com.au, “You may notice that in the first 72 hours after an update the battery life is reduced as your device finishes background activities and processes.” In fact, it seems like less charge is common after a software update, but it hasn’t been as noticeable in the past because there weren’t as many new programs installed.
If you’re still not sure about updating your Apple device, a tech nerd has confirmed that their battery performance is back to normal now that they’ve installed the update. “The first two to three days after the iOS 16 update, battery life was bad. Then it settled and now it’s good,” the iPhone user reassured in a post to Twitter.
Another owner of an Apple device said, “Initially, every new iOS update affects battery life in most models except the newly released ones.” “Sometimes even new models but nothing to panic about anyway. In a week or two software updates will start fixing it.”
