Squid Game Actor Oh Yeong-Su Sentenced in Sexual Misconduct Case – Oh Yeong-su, known for his role in the hit series “Squid Game,” has been found guilty of sexual misconduct in Seoul, South Korea. The 79-year-old actor has been sentenced to a potential 8-month imprisonment, with the sentence suspended for two years, stemming from a 2017 incident in which he allegedly hugged and kissed a woman on the cheek without her consent.
Additionally, Oh is mandated to participate in a 40-hour sexual violence treatment program, as confirmed by Reuters. Following his conviction on Friday, Oh has refuted the accusations, expressing his intention to appeal the verdict, as reported by Deadline. Oh was initially charged in the case in November 2022.

He previously told Korean broadcaster JTBC he did have contact with the woman, but only was “holding her hand while guiding the way” and he “only apologized because she said she wouldn’t take issue with an apology.” During the trial, Judge Jeong Yeon-ju cited the woman’s diary as evidence and said her claims were “consistent and appear to be statements that cannot be made without actually experiencing them.”
In the acclaimed Netflix series, Oh portrayed Oh Il-nam, the primary antagonist in the Korean drama. His performance garnered him a nomination for a Golden Globe, marking his first significant recognition, which he ultimately won. At the age of 77, he made history as the first Korean actor to win at the prestigious awards ceremony.
Surpassing fellow nominees Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Kieran Culkin, and Brett Goldstein, he was honored as the best supporting actor. In addition to Oh’s widespread acclaim for his role, “Squid Game” propelled Netflix to new heights as its most-streamed series, amassing 111 million views shortly after its release. A second season of the series has been confirmed, with Netflix hinting at its arrival sometime this year.
