Facebook Users in US have Until Friday to Claim Their Share of Meta’s $725M Settlement – The approaching deadline is for qualified individuals to submit their claims for a portion of a $725 million settlement offered to Facebook users. Only a few days are left for eligible users to take necessary steps. If you used Facebook in the U.S. from May 24, 2007, to December 22, 2022, you might be eligible to receive a portion of this settlement.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, agreed to make this payout earlier in the year to resolve a lawsuit that accused the platform of sharing users’ data without proper consent. To meet the eligibility criteria, individuals must have lived in the United States throughout that entire period. The final date to submit a claim is this upcoming Friday, August 25th.

This situation originates from the disclosures made in 2018, when it was revealed that Cambridge Analytica, a company associated with Steve Bannon, a political strategist for former President Donald Trump, had compensated a developer of a Facebook app for obtaining the personal data of approximately 87 million platform users.
Subsequently, this data was employed to focus on American voters during the 2016 election, culminating in Trump’s victory in the presidential race. In December, Meta reached an agreement to resolve the lawsuit and has explicitly refuted any responsibility or misconduct. The specific amount that individual users might receive in the settlement remains uncertain.
As it will hinge on the number of valid claims submitted and the duration for which a user utilized Facebook within that timeframe. Users meeting the eligibility criteria are automatically included in the settlement unless they decide to opt out, in which case they won’t receive any payment. Opting out would enable them to pursue an independent lawsuit or participate in another legal action connected to the allegations.

Qualified Facebook users who take no action will forego both payment and the option to litigate or be part of any related lawsuit. The distribution of eligible funds will be delayed until the settlement receives court approval. The final hearing to make this determination is scheduled for September 7th.
